Privacy Policy

1Information We Collect

• Account information. If you create an account, we store your username, email address, and password (hashed, never in plain text).
• Contact form submissions. If you use our contact form, we receive the name, email address, and message you provide, so we can reply to you.
• Newsletter / "notify me" signups. If you submit just an email address (e.g. from the homepage), we store that email to contact you about new domain sales.
• ChatDomains queries. If you use our AI appraisal assistant, the text you type is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a response. See Section 3 below.
• Usage data. We use Google Analytics to understand traffic and how visitors use the Site. We also keep a basic log of login/logout activity for registered accounts, and a per-IP count of anonymous usage of certain features (used only to enforce free-tier usage limits).
• Payment information. If you purchase a membership, your payment is processed directly by Stripe or PayPal. We do not see or store your full card number or PayPal password -- we only receive confirmation of your subscription status.
• Cookies. We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and to protect forms from cross-site request forgery (CSRF), plus Google Analytics cookies to measure site usage.

2How We Use Information

• To operate the Site and provide the features you use (search, saved searches, memberships, ChatDomains).
• To respond to messages sent through the contact form.
• To send you domain-sales notifications you've signed up for.
• To enforce usage limits on free/guest tiers, and to detect abuse.
• To understand overall traffic and improve the Site (via Google Analytics).
• To process membership payments and manage your subscription status.

3Third-Party Services

We share limited data with the following third parties, only as needed to provide the Site's features:

• Google Analytics -- anonymized/aggregated traffic analytics.
• Anthropic (Claude) -- powers the ChatDomains AI assistant. When you ask ChatDomains a question, your question text (and relevant comparable sales data we look up) is sent to Anthropic's API to generate an answer. Anthropic's own privacy policy governs how they handle that request.
• Stripe and PayPal -- process membership payments. Neither receives more than what's necessary to complete and manage your subscription.
• Namecheap Private Email -- delivers messages submitted through our contact form to our support inbox.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4Data Retention

We keep account data for as long as your account is active. Contact form messages, login activity logs, and anonymous usage counters are kept only as long as needed for support, security, and abuse-prevention purposes, and are periodically cleaned up.

5Your Rights

You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated data, by emailing contact@dnscroll.com. We'll respond as soon as we reasonably can.

6Children's Privacy

The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
